SKETCH OF DR. P.R.NAKKEERAN, DIRECTOR, |

Born in an agricultural family in Podaturpet, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu. Dr.P.R.Nakkeeran qualified for B.E. (Mechanical Engg.) and M.Sc, Engg. (Production) in College of Engineering, Guindy and obtained Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering from I.I.T., Chennai. He received training in United Kingdom (UK) under Commonwealth fellowship.
He started his career in education as Associate Lecturer in College of Engineering, Guindy. He rose to be Professor and Head of Production Technology in M.I.T. Chrompet and Director, Centre for Faculty Development, and Anna EDUSAT Programmes, Anna University. He has also held the position of Special Officer for preparing technical terms in Tamil.
He has guided many students in graduate, post graduate and Ph.D.Level. Some of the projects guided by him received best project awards.
He has made outstanding contributions in the area of Metrology and Machine Tools. He designed and developed Metrology Laboratories in Anna University. With his initiative, Metrology was introduced as a core subject in Engineering Curriculum. He also developed a Mechatronics Centre at MIT Campus and introduced P.G. Programme on Mechatronics for the first time in India. He has completed funded projects worth many lakhs.
He coined many technical terms in the area of Mechanical Engineering and helped Tamil University in bringing out a Technical dictionary in Science and Technology.
He has published more than fifty technical papers in national, international journals and conference proceedings. He has also published many articles in Tamil on advanced topics. He has also conducted many conferences, seminars, conventions and training programmes.
He is an expert in the area of Metrology, Quality Control, Total Quality Management, Maintenance Engineering and Computer Aided Manufacturing [CAM]. He is recognised as one of the best teachers by his students.
He is holding many responsible positions in many professional organisations. He was one of the National Directors of QCFI. He has also served as the Chairman, QCFI, Chennai chapter. He is also a member of NIQR executive council.
He is also a member of editorial board of Anna University Quarterly ‘KALANJIYAM’.
He has widely travelled in UK, Malaysia, Singapore, USA, France, Germany and Australia.
He has published books on Science for Children, Total Quality Management and Problem Solving Tools. His book on Total Quality Management received best book award from Government of Tamil Nadu. Two more books, one on Metrology and the other on Advances in manufacturing are in the final stages of publication.
Recently he won Life Time Achievement Awards from FETNA, USA and QCFI, India. He also won QCFI outstanding contribution award for the Growth of Quality circle movement in Educational Sector from QCFI, Chennai chapter.
Presently he is holding the position of the Director, Tamil Virtual Academy, Chennai.
