For
Linux Users:
(a) login
as root and create a directory under /usr/local called "tabtam"
mkdir /usr/local/tabtam
(b)
Download the zip
file into "/usr/local/tabtam" directory and
extract it. It contains tablfskamban.pfb, tamlkamban.pfb
and fonts.dir.
(c)
Now edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config file and add the following
line:
For editing you can either "pico" or "vi" editor [or whichever
you prefer]
pico /etc/X11/XF86Config
[scroll several lines, you will find a section called Files]
Section "Files"
[Under this you will find FontPath settings]
[Go last and add the line FontPath "/usr/local/tabtam/"]
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/"
FontPath "/usr/local/tabtam/"
(d)
Now Save the file and exit.
(e) logout
and relogin as a normal user [Hope you have created
some account like "test"]
(f) Now
start XWindows as usual using the "startx" command.
startx
(g)
To verify that your fonts are properly installed or not, use
the following command.
xlsfonts | grep tab
xlsfonts | grep tam
you will see the following lines:
-unknown-tab_lfs_kamban-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
-unknown-tab_x_ponni-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
-unknown-tam_l_kamban-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-adobe-fontspecific
(h) Launch
Netscape. Goto "Edit->Preferences->Fonts". Under the
encoding, "Userdefined" select "tamlkamban" as the variable
width fonts. For the fixed width font select "Lucida Typewriter
(B&H)" or whatever you want and set the size as 14. Also select
in the font menu, "Use my default font, overriding document
specified fonts".
(i) Now
select "Userdefined" under the "View->Characterset" menu
and you will see the page in tamil.
