1. Eligibility for Admission:

     The B.A. (Tamilology) Degree Programme is modular in its structure comprising of a Diploma, Higher Diploma and the Degree - the earlier one becoming both a pre-requisite and a contributory component for the successive ones.

• No age restriction for admission.

2. Duration and Distribution:

The three parts mentioned below have been planned to be studied over a period of three years.

     The B.A. (Tamilology) Degree Programme comprises of three parts:

Exemption:

     Those who have either obtained a Bachelor Degree or have successfully completed and qualified for Part - I and Part - II of a Bachelor Degree Programme of any recognized University within or outside India will be given exemption on request from doing Part - I and Part - II of B.A. (Tamilology) Degree Programme of TVA. Such of those who obtain exemption shall be required to study for a minimum period of 2 years from the date of registration before they get qualified for the award of the Degree.

     Others shall be required to study for a minimum period of 3 years from the date of their registration before they qualify for the award of the Degree.

3. Programme – Structure:

     The above lessons will be presented through Internet employing multimedia components.

     For Diploma / Higher Diploma holders, subjects already studied under these programmes will be exempted for B.A (Tamilology) Degree Programme.

4. Examinations:

      Examinations will consist of both Continuous Assessment and Term-End Assessment for each paper. Tests for Continuous Assessment will be conducted on-line only after the minimum 12 weeks of registration of each paper. Term-end examination will be conducted only after a minimum 6 months period of registration of each paper at the Study / Contact Centres of TVA. This will be done twice in a year in June and December of every academic year. The Term End Examination for each paper will have a duration of 3 hours.

     Continuous Assessment will have a weightage of 25 marks and Term-End Assessment will have a weightage of 75 marks for each paper out of total 100 marks. Each paper will carry a credit of 4.

6. Pattern of Question Papers for Term - end Examinations :

     The Question paper for Term - End Examinations will have the following pattern:

Each question paper will have three divisions.

7. Declaration of Results:

     The Results will be declared on the Net. The students will also be intimated individually by e-mail. The Degree will be awarded by the Tamil University, Tanjavur. The Degree will be sent to the students through their Study / Contact Centres.

8. Letter Grades/ Grade Point / Marks:

     The Results for each paper will be declared on a Five-Point-Scale. The Letter-Grade, Point – Grade and corresponding Marks are tabulated below:

     A student will have to score a minimum of Grade – Point 2 to pass in any paper. But to qualify for the award of Diploma / Higher Diploma / Degree, a student should score a Grade – Point – Average (GPA) of not less than 2.5. Those who fail to score the required GPA – can reappear for examinations in such papers where they have scored low and enhance thereby their GPA.

9. Equivalence:

     The B.A. (Tamilology) Degree of TVA will be on par with the Bachelor Degree of any recognized Indian University, as the degree is awarded by the Tamil University, Thanjavur which is recognized by the University Grants Commission, India.
