A02143 Types of Poems |
This lesson gives us an introduction to the four
different types of “pa” in Tamil grammar namely Venbaa, Aasiriyapaa, Kalipaa
and Vanjipaa. A mix of Venbaa and Aasiriyapaa is known as Marutpaa. The
general grammar for a Tamil poem consists of Seer, Thalai, Adi, Thodai, and
Oosai. Venbaa is divided into Kural Venbaa, Nerisai Venbaa, Innisai Venbaa,
Patrodai Venbaa and Sindhiyal Venbaa. Nerisai Venbaa is made up of four
lines. It has a separate word at the end of the second line. Innisai Venbaa
also has four lines but does not have the separate word that is found in
Nerisai Venbaa. Patrodai Venbaa is of more than four lines. Sindhiyal Venbaa
three lines; at the end of the second line there can be a separate word.
Aasiriyapaa also known as Agavarpaa is divided into Nerisai Aasiriyapaa,
Inaikural Aasiriyapaa, Nilai Mandila Aasiriyapaa and Adimari Mandila
Aasiriyapaa. Kalipaa is divided into three different types, namely
Othaalisai Kalipaa, Venn Kalipaa and Kochagag Kalipaa. Vanjipaa is
classified into two different types, namely Kuraladi Vanjipaa and Sindhadi
Vanjipaa. Kuraladi Vanjipaa consists of Kuraldi, hence the name. Marutpaa is
a mix of Venbaa and Aasiriyapa lines. Types of Marutpaa are Puraniliai
Vaalthu, Kaikilai, Vaayurai Vaalthu and Seviyarivuru. This lesson gives us a
basic insight into the four different types of “Pa” in Tamil. |
