When the lover and his sweetheart get married, the community approves of them as man and wife. The man may have to leave home either for defending the land, or for earning a living, or for other reasons. The ‘separation’ of the ‘new-weds’ is a popular theme in ‘கற்பு ஒழுக்கம்’. The pain of loneliness for the woman is aggravated by the unfriendly sluggishness in the passing of time, during nights. The eyes lose luster, the body pales, and the limbs grow thinner. A few couplets reflecting these developments are discussed in this section.
