Higher Level Programmes

The Bachelor's Programme in Tamilology includes the Diploma and Higher Diploma courses within itself (Fig.) Parts 1 and 2 include papers on mother tongue and on any foreign language with respect to the student. If a student has passed any degree from any of the recognized Universities in the world, he/she will be exempted from parts 1 and 2. Also, if a student, not possessing a degree, passes examinations in his mother tongue and in a foreign language at the degree level from any recognized College or University, he/she will be exempted from these two parts. Those who are not covered under any of the cases referred above, have an option to undergo the papers under parts 1 and 2 offered by TVA, shown in (Fig.). Parts 1 and 2 are assigned 16 credits each.

Part - 3 offers 16 papers on Tamil language, culture, literature, history, art, etc (Fig.) Each paper contains four blocks of lessons and each block contains six lessons. Each paper is assigned four credits (i.e. 1 Block -> 1 credit). One who obtains 16 credits will be awarded a Diploma in Tamil; A Higher Diploma in Tamil is awarded when 40 credits are earned. To qualify in part 3 of the Degree Programme, one has to earn 64 credits by completing all the 16 papers.

Lesson Structure

An introduction for each paper and a general briefing on each block of lessons are provided in the audio form both in Tamil and English.Icons for invoking the audio files are provided in the opening page of the papers.Since it will be tiring to read the text continuously, the contents of the lessons are provided using multi-media facilities such as audio, video, animated pictures, still pictures, etc. inside the lessons wherever required.Wherever poems are quoted inside the lessons they are also supported with audio clippings.To review the lessons and for self-evaluation, self-assessment questions are provided. Answers for the questions are also provided through answer buttons.At the end of the lesson a summary of the contents of the lesson is provided.

For each lesson a special lecture by an expert in the field lasting for about a minute or two is given at the end of the lesson.
