Bharathi's meeting with Sister Nivedita woke him up to the injustice being meted out to women by the Indian society. The words of Nivedita kindled in him the thoughts of freedom for women and the need for equal status for them with men. His journalistic career and his poetic outbursts helped him in arousing women to fight for their rights. He insisted on women getting educated, for he thought education alone can lead them to awareness.
