Purging
the society of its superstitions was yet another task the poet took
avidly upon himself. He derides at people's faith in astrology and
makes fun of astrologers' predictions. He opposed child-marriage
as it led to many a girl-child becoming a widow, forced to observe
'widowhood' for the rest of their life. He also roused the social
sensitivity against young women being given in marriage to aged
widowers.
