Bharathidasan
was an ardent follower of Periyar and a staunch supporter of his
Self-Respect movement. He believed in the equality of humans and
opposed any discrimination on the basis of the parental clan. The
social discriminations, Bharathidasan, believed were promoted by
religious fundamentalism. He requested his readers to develop self-confidence
and self-respect and not to give room for superstitions. He exhorts
them to create a new world where there is no social or religious
discrmination nor any superstitions, and would call that world as
the ‘World of Self-Respect’. The new world will be a world of an
egalitarian society where there will be no individual ownership.
