சஞ்சீவி
பர்வதத்தின் சாரல் was first published in the year 1930. Bharathidasan
explains the superstitions of ignorant people through an episode
in this poem. குப்பன் and வஞ்சி are lovers. Once they climb up the
சஞ்சீவி hill. There were two herbs of rare quality on the hill.
One herb, if eaten, will make one hear the conversations all over
the world, while the other will make one see visually all happenings
in the world. Attracted by the qualities of these herbs Vanji insists
on eating them and they both eat. They start hearing the conversations
of people of different nations, which reveal the presence of social
differences in their countries. All the same the French are proud
to say that their country is above such discrimination.
All
of a sudden, they hear a voice commanding somebody to uproot and
bring the Sanjeevi mountain to revive the breath of Rama and Lakshmana.
Kuppan is frightened. Vanji, being a rational thinker, explains
to Kuppan that his fear is based on superstitious belief. She says
that he should realize that it is humanly impossible to do such
things like uprooting mountains. Through this Bharathidasan further
says that such superstitions are hindrances for the growth of the
country. People should cultivate the conviction that only hard work
can bring them good results.
