This
narrative poem glorifies a women’s courage, perseverance, diplomacy
and patriotism. The villainy of the General of a country makes the
Queen run away from the palace with her young son. Living in the
forest, she equips the Prince with royal training, keeps the neighbouring
Kings informed of the general’s evil intentions of dethroning the
King. Unaware of the diplomatic moves of the Queen, the General
makes elaborate arrangements to crown himself as the King. He invites
all the neighbouring kings to his coronation. At the right moment,
the kings expose the General’s villainous deeds applauding the Queen’s
courage and her sense of duty.
The
Prince comes into the scene, and to the surprise of everyone assembled
refuses to be crowned and declares democracy instead.
Through
this narrative பாரதிதாசன் reinforces his conviction that women are
not weak and that given an opportunity they can be valiant, diplomatic
and pro-active.
