Learning is viewed to have two basic components - one, numeracy and the other, literacy. Those two are referred to as the two eyes of a person. The aptness in the identification of numeracy and literacy as primary components of learning is highly appreciable as it holds good even today after 2000 years of progress since this observation was made.
