Chengalvaraya Pillai also has a similar statement to make. He muses “The Scantiness of Tamil prose is a known fact...... It is one of the first duties of a Tamil student to work for the rapid increase of the prose sphere.....”⁶⁸

With the awakening of the 20th century, Tamil prose books on the various branches of the humanities have developed, but still books on science are far from adequate.
