The second of the great trio of Tamil Saivite Saints and poets is திருநாவுக்கரசர் or அப்பர் as he later came to be called. This section presents in brief the life-story of நாவுக்கரசர் dwelling at first on his early allegiance to Jainism and his return to Saivism after being cured of a painful illness. The first hymn composed by நாவுக்கரசர் at the sanctum of the வீரட்டனேசுவரர் temple where he was cured is presented. The story of Navukkaracar’s meeting with the young ஞானசம்பந்தர் where the latter addressed him affectionately as அப்பர் is narrated. நாவுக்கரசர் who lived upto 81 years composed the incredible number of 49,000 பதிகங்கள்.
