E. electricity. Gk. electron = அம்பர் - L. electricus - E. electricity. அம்பரைத் தேய்க்கும்போது மின்வலி தோன்றுவதால் இச் சொல் எழுந்தது. இதை யொட்டிப் புதுவையில் அம்பர் என்னுஞ் சொல்லினின்று ஆம்பரியம் என்னுஞ் சொல் திரிக்கப்பட்டது.
