Traditional sculptures and paintings continued even
after the period of Naickers. New images and techniques that developed in
modern times are dealt with in this lesson. Owing to the influence of
Western arts, sculptors and painters developed new methods of sculpting &
painting.
The five central units discuss tradition and novelty, modern art
traditions, sculptors and their creations painters and paintings of
contemporary period and the distinctive features of modern sculpting &
painting.
The first of these units deals with the changes in sculpture and
paintings as artists took a re-look at sought tradition and to create an
entirely new style. Thanjavur paintings belong to the tradition established
by Maharashtra kings who followed the Naickers. Jack-tree planks and even
glass pieces are used for these paintings.
The second unit presents modern art tradition such as European Academic
tradition, Impressionistic tradition, Bengal art tradition and contemporary
arts traditions.
In the fourth unit, you will learn about great painters and their
contributions to the world of art.
The fifth unit lists different organizations that patronize artists.
Tamil age Painting Fine Arts Committee, Southern Cultural Centre, Chola
Mandala Painting Village, Madras School of Arts and Crafts and Weavers’ Work
Centres are a few such popular establishments. |
