Lengthening of short vowels

Shortening of large vowels

Compensative Lengthening of Root-vowels

     When the succeeding or final syllable of a word consisting or two or three short syllables is dropped, the root-vowel is lengthened in compensation for the loss.

     e.g. pagu-pƒ, to divide, to distribute.
