கலைமனம்
கலைகளைப் படைத்து அழகின்பம் அமைத்து அளிக்கும்
கலைஞர், மிக நுட்பமான கருவி போன்றவர்; அந்தக் கருவியின்
உறுப்புகள் காந்தக் கவர்ச்சியுள்ள இரும்பால் செய்யப்பட்டவை
என்றும், சிறு மாறுதலாலும் வேகமாக அசைந்து இயங்கக்
கூடியவை என்றும் கொண்டால்,உவமை பொருந்தும்* கலைஞரின்
புலன்கள் அதன் உறுப்புகள் போல் சிறு மாறுதலாலும்
பெரிதும் கவரப்படுபவை அந்தக் கருவி காந்தமோ இரும்போ
நெருங்காமல், கல்லிலும் மரத்திலும் தொடர்புற்று
இயங்கும்போது தவறு இல்லாமல் இயங்கும். அது போல்,
கலைஞரின் சூழ்நிலையில் அமைதி உள்ளபோது அவருடைய
வாழ்வும் மெல்ல அமைதியாக நடக்கும். ஆனால் உலகத்தில்
அப்படிப்பட்ட சூழ்நிலை அமைதல் அரிது; எத்தகைய செல்வாக்கு
உள்ள மனிதர்க்கும் முழு உரிமை என்பது இங்கு இல்லை. ஆதலின
கலைஞர்க்கு மட்டும் தன் மனம் போல் வாழும் முழு உரிமை
எவ்வாறு கிடைக்கும்? குடும்ப வாழ்க்கையிலோ, சுற்றுப்புற
உறவிலோ கலைஞரின் விருப்பு வெறுப்புக்களைத் தூண்டக்கூடிய
ஏதேனும் நிகழ்ந்துவிட்டால், அவருடைய மனம் உடனே அமைதி _________________________________________________ * A poet may be regarded as a very sensitive
instrument which only records under certain conditions.This instrument is easily thrown out of gear by magnetic forces obtruding into its vicinity. Such are obsessions, fixed ideas, inhibitions, and repressed psychological factors general.
Poetry is dependent in the first place on a certain
condition of sensibility in the past. It is dependent in the
second place on the freedom with which that sensibility-the
direction in which it operates. The first condition is innate,
the second determined by environment, the third acquired
by the exercise, of will.
