akkacci and appƒttai
originally denoted a grandmother, but now they do an elder sister, properly
the eldest.
There has been a worng tendency among the
common people, either to change the form of many of the names of relationship
by adding gender-suffix to vocatives, or to use the vocatives themselves
as nominatives. Such forms, being un- grammatical, have to be regarded
as corruptions.
