உபநிடதங்கள் உயிர், உலகம், இறைவன் என்னும் முப்பொருள்களின் உண்மைகளை ஆராய்கின்றன; யோகத்தைப்பற்றிக் கூறுகின்றன; ஓங்காரத்தை உச்சரிக்கும்படி வலியுறுத்துகின்றன; மாயை உள்பொருள் எனக் கொள்கின்றன. இவைகளிற் கூறப்படும் உண்மைகள் எல்லாக் காலத்துக்கும் எல்லாமக்களுக்கும் பொதுவானவை.1 உபநிடதஞானம் ஞாயத்துக்கு உட்பட்டது; வேதங்களுக்கு மாறானது.2

  உபநிடதங்களில் கூறப்படும் பிரணவம் தமிழுக்கே உரியது. வடமொழியில் எ, ஒ என்னும் குறில்கள் இல்லை. எந்த மொழியில் எ, ஒ என்னும் குறில்கள் காணப்படுகின்றனவோ அம்மொழிக்கே ஓ, ஏ என்னும் நெடில்களும் உரியன. இம்முறையைக்கொண்டு, பந்தாக்கர், பாலிமொழி யில் எ, ஒ என்னும் குறில்கள் காணப்படுகின்றமையின் மகதநாட்டில் தமிழ் வழங்கியதென்றும், எகர ஒகர ங்கள் தமிழுக்கே உரியனவென்றும் காட்டியுள்ளார்.
