A02135 உரிச்சொல்லின் வகைகள் - I (Categories of adjectives - Part I)
This lesson classifies adjectives into different types and takes up single property adjectives. Illustrative of adjectives related to one property help you understand the use of உரிச்சொல் in Tamil expression. Some of them are used in ordinary communication and some are used in poetic expressions only.
The three sub units deal with the single properties of excess (மிகுதி), ‘say’ (both as a verb and a noun) (சொல்) and sound (ஓசை) respectively. The second unit summarises this lesson.
உரிச்சொல் can refer to single or multiple properties. One word may refer to many properties; so also many words may refer to one property. Words like சால, நனி, கழி etc. refer to the one property of excess. The quality that is ‘saying’ is expressed in sixteen adjectives like செப்பு, உரை, கூற்று, விளம்பு and இயம்பு. Sounding quality is expressed by 22 adjectives like முழக்கு, ஒலி, இசை, குரை, கனை, அதிர் and இரங்கு.
The use of these 6+16+22 adjectives is mostly literary in nature and very rare in common communication.
