Proof reading is a specialist job done by persons trained for this work. Their job description, methods of proof reading and the symbols used in this work are explained in this lesson.
Two units deal with proof reading and classification of symbols used.
Six different types of work done by proof-readers along with symbols common to all languages and to all printers are presented in the first unit. Methods adopted for corrections are also suggested with illustration. The Unit also has instructions to proof readers.
Proof-reading symbols are classified into five categories. They are general, punctuations, spacing, alignment and type or font. All of them are, explained and illustrated.
On learning this unit, you will be able to understand the art and science of proof-reading and appreciate error-free publications in print.
