New Software In Tamil
Developed
Four computer software in Tamil, were
developed as per the specifications and standardisation announced
by the State Government on June 13, were presented to Chief Minister
M.Karunanidhi at the Secretariat , after a demonstration programme.
Suvita Tamil Wordprocessor and 'Kalaignar
99 educationist' were developed
by Suvita Computers of Triplicane, the other two software, 'Kalaignar'
and 'Anna", were developed in monolingual (Tamil) and
bilingual (Tamil and English) fonts by 'Kanithamizh Sangam',
a Chennai based association of Tamil computer software developers.
Welcoming the new software, the Chief
Minister told mediapersons that this will encourage the Government's
efforts to develop Tamil computer software. He said efforts are
already on to introduce Tamil computers in selected Government
Offices in Tiruvarur district. In due course, it will be extended
to other districts also, he said.

Madras University Tamil professor N.Deivasundaram
said the 'Kalaignar
99 - educationist' software is basically
meant for
students to learn and operate computer using Tamil language.
Among other things, it contains editor, fonts, keyboard,
vowel-consonant syllable and syllabic division.
Suvita Computers will give 700 such
software, free of cost, to the Tamil Nadu Government for distribution
to the Government schools for computer teaching. The other software

Word-Processor has latest features like spell checker, grammer
checker, Tamil-English dictionary, the saurus,
disctionary of antonyms, suspicious pair dictionary, number-word
conversion, indexing, English-Tamil calender, Tamil E-Mail and
Web Browser.
A llangovan, president of the Kanithamizh
Sangam, said the two software developed by the association in
monolingual and
billingual fonts will be loaded into the internet, free of cost,
for the personal use of Tamils all over the world,and
for educational purposes.
Education Minister K.Anbazhagan, former
Union Minister Murasoli Maran
and Chief Secretary A.P.Muthusamy were present.
