When a man and a woman got married, they were expected to follow certain virtues. The man was to earn his livelihood, while the woman was to support him in all his endeavours. The earnings were to be utilized not just for running the family, but also to entertain visitors and for philanthropical purposes. Concern for lives and the welfare of all was yet another great virtue of the Tamils.
