c01212 - நான்மணிக்கடிகை
நான்மணிக்கடிகை speaks of moral and ethical values.
விளம்பி நாகனார் is the author of this work. நாகனார் is his name and விளம்பி is the name of the place, to which he belonged. From the two invocatory poems of the book, we learn that விளம்பி நாகனார் was a devotee of திருமால். He belonged to the post-sangam period.
The title of the book, நாண்மணிக்கடிகை, means, literally, “four gems put together”. The author has tried to put together four teachings in each poem. ‘அறம்’ is the bed-rock on which this edifice is built.
நாண்மணிக்கடிகை has 106 poems in வெண்பா metre. The book attempts to explain the ideals and principles to be followed in life.
Like all other didactic works, நாண்மணிக்கடிகை also speaks of the married life, greatness of women, children that make us happy, the significance of education and wealth. Friendship, soft words, nature of the kings and scholars, worldly wisdom, the right path one has to follow - are the other things we find in this book.
Each poem is a unique piece by itself, as it beautifully knits together four different matters. நாண்மணிக்கடிகை, thus, teaches us the values to be observed in life.
