  • d03142 Lesson 2 Porulani Iyal- II

This lesson talks about anigal 5 to 9 mentioned in the "Dandialangaaram". The lesson offers a definition of "Pinvaru Nilai Ani", "Munnavilaku Ani", "Vettruporul Vaippu Ani", "Vettrumai Ani" and Vibavanai Ani" mentioned in the "Dandialangaaram". It lists their types along with suitable examples from literary texts.

"Pinvaru Nilai Ani" is the figure of speech in which a word or a meaning that occurs in the beginning of a verse is repeated several times in the verse. The three types of "Pinvaru Nilai Ani" are, "Sol Pinvaru Nilai Ani", "Porul Pinvaru Nilai Ani" and "Sol Porul Pinvaru Nilai Ani". In "Sol Pinvaru Nilai Ani", homonyms of a word used in the beginning of the verse occur in other parts of the verse. In "Porul pinvaru Nilai Ani", synonyms of a word occurring in the beginning of the verse recur in the verse. In "Sol Porul Pinvaru Nilai Ani", a word used in the beginning of the verse, recurs without any change in the meaning.

"Munna Vilaku Ani" subtly implies the refutation of a concept or an action. This ani is classified as "Iranthavinai Vilaku", Nigazhvinai Vilaku" and "Edhirvinai Vilaku" based on the past, present and future tenses respectively.

In "Vettrupporul Vaippu Ani", the poet, who begins to describe the attributes of an object, ends his description by referring to another powerful, renowned object in order to emphasize his description of the former. The first object is called "Sirappu Porul" and the second is called "Pothu Porul". There are 8 types of "Vettrupporul Vaippu Ani".

The eighth figure of speech mentioned in the "Dandialangaaram" is "Vettrumai Ani". This ani, which is an offshoot of Uvamai Ani, also draws a comparison between 2 objects but, unlike Uvamai Ani points out the differences between the two.

When a poet subtly attributes an action to a special or a hitherto unknown cause instead of the commonly known cause or when he implies that, an action occurred on its own without any causes it is called "Vibavana Ani". There are 2 types of Vibavana Ani. They are "Ayal Kaarana Vibaavana Ani" and "Iyalbu Vibavana Ani".
