LESSON - 5

D09145 - Sirupaanaatrupadai-5

This lesson offers an insight into the lines that describe the grandeur of the king’s palace; the fame and popularity of king Nalliyakkodan; and the sweetness of the panan’s yaazh and the greatness of his music.

While describing his meeting with the king, the panan recounts the beauty and magnificence of the king’s palace. He describes how the learned courtiers who surrounded the king sang his praise. He also narrates how the soldiers extolled the courage and heroism of their beloved king. He reveals how the women revered and respected their king. The panan stresses on the generosity of the king and describes how poets and artists praised his benevolence. Finally he also paints a vivid picture of the king seated majestically on his throne like the glorious, luminescent moon.

The sirupanan plays the ‘Seeriyaazh’ or the small yaazh, a stringed instrument. There is a description of the yaazh and the sweetness of its music. The greatness of the panan’s music is also highlighted.

The panan describes how the king honoured him by giving him the best clothes and the choicest food. Notwithstanding these gifts, he also showered a lot of gold coins and other priceless riches on the poor panan.
