Art is supposed to be the touchstone of culture. Arts seem
to have flourished in the Tamil land. Sculpture and Paintings, in the temples of yore and
elsewhere, stand testimony to the culture of Tamils. The Big Temple at Tanjore and its
dome reveal the aesthetics and the cultural felicity of Tamils of the Chola dynasty. The
convention followed in the practice of மடலேறுதல் shows the prevalence of painting as an art among the ancient
Tamils.
