        Of the forms of சிற்றிலக்கியம், there is one popular kind called தூது, One work belonging to தூது இலக்கியம் is தமிழ் விடு தூது. It means Tamil language is used as the messenger to Lord Siva called சோம சுந்தரர். This lesson describes the contents and structure of this தமிழ் விடு தூது.

        The general format of this work, the role of Tamil in relation to God, women in general and the heroine, the greatness of the hero, the contents of the message sent by the heroine and the manner in which the message is composed are presented, in the five central units,

        A women sends Tamil as the messenger to the God in the city of Madurai in South Tamil nadu. The unique aspect of this work is the use of Tamil both as the content and the carrier of the message. The greatness of Tamil, the reason for praising Tamil and consecrating Tamil as a king etc., are the specialities of this தூது இலக்கியம்.

        A graphic description of Tamil language in terms of its great literary and grammatical works is presented in the next unit. Tamil and God are compared. The relation between Tamil and women are explained. The heroine rejects all things other than Tamil as the messenger.

        The hero’s greatness is illustrated by the heroine. சோம சுந்தரக் கடவுள் enshrined at Madurai is the hero.

        Why the swan, the honey-bee, the deer, the quail and the mind are not selected as messengers is logically shown. The manner of presenting the message to the Lord by specifying the ‘don’ts’ is instructed by the heroine.

        The herione instructs the messenger the way to reach the Lord and the manner of presenting the message. At the end she describes her plight and urges to expedite the message.
