The first section of the lesson deals with the poems under the sub-heading ‘பாரதநாடு’ This group of poems glorifies the motherland. This was necessary to boost up the self-image and morale of the ordinary Indian of the pre-independence era. In the poem ‘தாயின் மணிக்கொடி’ he visualizes the hoisting of the flag of independent India by a host of freedom fighters, unflinching and loyal.
