5.3.1 சமூக ஒருமை உணர்வு
Barring the few deplorable developments identified above, we see quite a few promising features in the present-day Tamil culture. Progressive march against discriminations of all kinds - social, religious and sexual - is quite obvious. The status of those sections of society which were neglected for long has shown considerable improvement. Untouchability, the social evil that plagued the community, is now viewed socially as an uncivilized practice. Harmony among religions and castes is pursued relentlessly to ward off any attempt to hamper it. Women today are in a position to compete with men on par in almost every walk of life.
