The classification adopted is a development from that of piŒkalantai, There are 56 sections and of these, the last seven deal with homonyms. The other sections relate to class-vocabularies and contain about 15,000 names. |

Another work which strikes out a new scheme of classification is Nƒmatipa- nika--u Its author was Subrahma-ya Kavirƒyar of Kallidai-k-kuŠicci, son of the scholar who wrote Potikai-nika--u. p‡vai-p-purƒ-am, by the same author, was composed, as already mentioned, in 1810 A.D. In Nƒmatipa- nika--u, the grammatical classification into uyar-ti-ai and ƒˆŠi-ai is adopted with suitable sub-divisions; and a chapter on 'qualities' is added at the end. The details of the scheme are set forth in the eight verses forming the introduction. There are 16 sections containing 800 stanzas in ve-pƒ metre. About 12,000 are treated. |

Before we pass on to works dealing solely with homonyms, we may mention a particular kind of nika--u known as nika--uPal-oiry--k‡--attoru-peyar-t-tokuti. Subordinate species of the technical and general terms of science and literature', in Beschi's words, forms its subject-matter. Things are grouped in various numerical aggregated and these group-names are explained in the numerical order. Tivƒkaram and similar works treated of these groups in their final sections, In course of time, separate works on this subject began to appear. Tokai-nika--u1, by Subrahma-ya Kavirƒyar, is a work of this kind . The manuscript of this has not yet been traced and our knowledge of it is obtained only from the introductory verses of the author's. Nƒmatipa- nika--u. |

Poru--okai- nika--u. is another work dealing with group-names. Its author was Subrahma-ya Bhƒrati, šon of Vaitt…swara D…k™itra of Ku-umiyƒmalai. Its data is date is unknown. It has been published by the Madura Tamil Sangam and Mr.R.Subrahmanya Kavirƒyar, Its editor, has added 122 sutras of his own, brining the total number to 1,000. |

Another work of this class is Tokai-p-peyar-vi˜akkam of Mudaliyar, published in 1840. in this, the groupnames under each numeral are arranged alphabetically. |
ILAKKA-T-TIRAVUKOL |
Several decades after, appeared another small Ilakka-t-tiŠavuk†l2. Its special feature is that all the group-names are given in one alphabetical list, without being arranged under different numerals. We have been till now considering class-vocabularies which correspond to the modern 'thesaurus', and group-names.
