    The Novels of Sivakami




    This lesson deals with the novels of Sivakami, an upcoming Tamil novelist. Her novel "Aanandaayee" has been analysed in detail.

        Sivakami was born in 1957 in Perambaloor near Thiruchi. Even as a child, she was interested in oratory and creative writing. In 1980, she joined the Indian Administrative Services, and has since served in various Government Departments. She has been writing short stories and novels under the pseudonym "Nithya". Her first collection of short stories appeared in 1986. The following is a list of her works:

        - Ippadikku Unkal Etharthamulla - A collection of short stories
        - Palayana kalithalum - A Novel
        - Aananthayee - A novel
        - Kurukkuvettu - A novel
        - Kadaici Maanthar - A Collection of Short stories
        - Kathaikal - A collection of Short stories and Vazhakaikurippu Nool

        In addition to writing, Sivakami is also the editor of a magazine Pudiya Kodanki. In 1995, she received the President's Award for a telefilm "Oodaka" Which she directed. She can well be called a multifaceted genius.

        "Aanandaayee" is the heroine of the novel named after her. She is an illiterate rustic woman who believes that her family is her world. Her husband not only ill-treats her, but brings another lady to stay in the same house as Aanandaayee. The novel brings out the importance of women's education.

        Sivakami's novels are woven around the lives of the village folk with which she was familiar. Written in the simple dialect of the rural people, these novels deal with topical social problems in an artistic manner.

        This lesson teaches you about the writings of Sivakami, in particular, her novel "Aanandaayee."
