Bharathi’s experiment with poetic forms was comprehensive He employed the traditional forms with their conventional themes as in his சீட்டுக்கவி and ஓலைத்தூக்கு, மகாசக்திக்கு விண்ணப்பம், சிவசக்தி புகழ் and சக்தித்திருப்புகழ். He also employed traditional prosodic forms of சிந்து, வஞ்சினம் and கையறு நிலைப் பாடல். He used at times the traditional prosodic forms to communicate new content as in his விநாயகர் நான்மணி மாலை, புதிய ஆத்திசூடி and பாரதமாதா திருப்பள்ளி எழுச்சி. Bharathi’s சுயசரிதை is the first attempt in Tamil in presenting autobiography in verse form. Blank verses were employed in Tamil for the first time by Bharathi.
