Seven Islamic works have been produced in modern times, with Prophet Mohammad as the central figure, and composed both in the ancient conventional and post-modern unconventional, verse forms. These are நாயக வெண்பா, நெஞ்சில் நிறைந்த நபிமணி,
இறைபேரொளி, நபிகள் நாயகம், அருட்காவியம். ஞானவெளிச்சுடர், நாயகம் ஒரு காவியம், நாயகம் எங்கள் தாயகம்
and அண்ணலே யாஸு லுலாஹ். There are eleven other classics on other themes. Notable among them are யூசுப் சுலைகா,
மஹ்ஜபீன் -புனித பூமியிலே and பிரளயம் கண்ட பிதா. In this lesson, you shall learn about நாயக வெண்பா, யூசுப் சுலைகா and மஹ்ஜபீன் - புனித பூமியிலே.

நாயக வெண்பா tells the story of Prophet Mohammad in the ‘வெண்பா’ metre. It was composed by the great poet M.Abdul Majeed, who belonged to பனைக்குளம் in ராமநாதபுரம் District. Like சீறாப்புராணம் this work also contains three cantos. The poet sings the glories of the prophet in a highly imaginative way by means of appropriate similes.

Youssuf Sulaika deals with the divine love that exists between an ardent devotee and the Lord. It also lays down several rules for a righteous conduct. This epic was written by the poet சாரண
பாஸ்கரன் He was born in கூத்தாநல்லூர் in Tanjore District. His original name was T.M.M.Ahamad. From the age of twelve, he was gifted with the art of composing songs. In addition to யூசுப் சுலகா, சாரண பாஸ்கரன்் has written several prose and poetic works. யூசுப் சுலைகா is characterised by its simplicity, imaginative appeal, mastery of words and alliterative beauty. Very few Arabic words have been used by the poet. The epic tells the story of Nabi Youssuf, who lived about four thousand years ago. There are references to Youssuf in the Bible and the Quran also. Hence, there are plenty of historical details as well as practical truths in this work.

ஜின்னா ஷரீபுத்தீன் of Sri Lanka has composed a verse epic based on the two historical novels of the famous Tamil Muslim novelist, Hassan. The work deals with the third War of the Cross waged to redeem Jerusalem, and the exploits of சுல்தான்
ஸலாஹீத்தீன். The uniqueness of this epic lies in the fact that the poet has transformed the prose of the novels into memorable verse.
