The boundaries of Tamil Nadu have kept changing - so also the names given to the land: From Tamil Nadu (in the old days) to Chennai or Madras State (during the European rule) and back to Tamil Nadu during the federal rule. In the section that follows we present to you the beauty and charm of the Tamil land and explain how the nature bring Tamils had classified their land on the basis of its geographical features, and had recorded for each category, the distinctive traits of people in their way of living, worship, profession, entertainment etc. They viewed Nature to reflect their own quality of life. The virtue of faithful women was believed to be reflected in the generous prosperity of Nature outside. The valour of men was held high by women and praised by poets.
