General Introduction :
The Nayak Rulers came to Tamil Nadu in 14C (A.D.) from the Vijaya Nagar Empire. The Nayak Rulers were pious and broadminded and were lovers of art. Their administrative system, patronage of religion, culture and art and their effective control of castiest conflicts - have all played a significant role in the growth of Tamil culture. The Meenakshi Temple at Madurai, the Sri Rangam Temple at Trichy, the Nayak Mahal at Madurai - all bear witness to their interest in religion, temple architecture and contruction of palaces. They came to the rescue of Christians wherever attempts were made to suppress them. Telugu language came to be widely used in Tamil Nadu and it gained prominence in Music. This lesson talks about the changes and growth in the Tamil culture during the Nayak period.
