Bharathidasan rendered in poetic form the atheistic principles of Periyar. He attributes all evils of social discriminations to theist leaders. He believed that the common people have been swindled and cheated in the name of god and religion. How can the god, he questions, protect his followers, when he is not able to protect himself? Religion, he avers, has thwarted the growth of Tamil; the Tamil community, hence should be cleansed of religious beliefs.
